Miscellaneous Feedback # 1

This is an unusual one, but I think it’s quite important. In your conversations you frequently leave out a key piece of information and so the next 20 sentences don’t make any sense to anyone else listening. Someone then has to ask, “Who is Fred and how does he fit in?” or “How is that related to what we’ve just been talking about?

I know in your mind everything makes perfect sense because you have all the information, but quite frequently the connections aren’t obvious to anyone else. This happens both in a work situation and in social chit chats. The result is that it sometimes appears as if you have a ‘loose wire’ in your brain as the conversation doesn’t seem connected to what everyone else is talking about. I’ve seen people look at you with a blank stare not quite sure what you’re talking about or how to respond. And the trouble is, not everyone has the confidence to ask you because it might make them seem ‘stupid’.

 

Also, people don’t remember everything you told them from 6 months ago. While it might be obvious to you because you live in that world, people forget things not personal to themselves

 

My suggestion is for you to make a big effort to check in your mind if everyone is going to have all the background, check whether the connections are completely obvious, and then STILL err on the side of caution and paint the connections and assumptions anyway. Doing this will make a massive difference to how you relate with people and how they relate to you

2         REPEATED MISTAKES

 

Repeated Mistake #1

You’re a lovely, kind person! You mean no harm to anyone and you unconsciously see the best in people. These are lovely attributes but the problem is, you are too trusting and possibly ‘naïve’. You tend to take people at face value and then get them involved in your projects without realising they may have character flaws or hidden agendas that later come back to ‘bite you on the bum’.

Take more time with people. Don’t let them get involved in your wonderful projects until they have proven themselves over a long period. Take time to ‘date them’ as it were. You don’t need people as much as they need you. Be more confident and more discerning.
